Description
Campos Elíseos Theatre, built between 1901 and 1902, is one of the best examples of Art Nouveau architecture in the Basque Country.
This building presents an extraordinary façade of modernist nature, where plant and animal motifs are abundant. We can also admire ceramic applications and shapely forms. Decorative elements are around a big horseshoe arch with some oriental influences.
After a deep renovation process, the theatre will host an avant-gardist art centre specialised in Scenic and Musical Arts and in new technologies. The SGAE (Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors) will manage the building when it is opened.
Setting and atmosphere: classical construction, cultural atmosphere.
