Description
Olabeaga and Zorrozaurre are the latest industrial areas existing in Bilbao. Both are directly opposite on the banks of the ria, in the entrance to the city. An ambitious plan of urban development is expected to be implemented.
Zorrozaurre is a vast peninsula, with a surface area of about 700,000 square metres. Most of this neighbourhood is in a sorry state of neglect. In the past, there was boundless activity in the region due to the numerous factories and big industrial premises that nowadays are virtually abandoned.
As for Olabeaga, the situation is different. Despite the atmosphere of decadence, new construction buildings exist side by side with antique, old and almost rundown buildings. However, a significant social activity takes place in the neighbourhood due to its many inhabitants.
Both areas are very close to some of the most modern and emblematic spots of what it is known as the new Bilbao. That would be of considerable interest when it comes to showing contrasts between different atmospheres and settings.
