Description
The Guggenheim museum, without doubt, is the main cultural reference of Bilbao. Designed by Frank O. Gehry, the museum is situated in the Abandoibarra area, on surface are of 32,500 square metres.
The sculpture-style building has spectacular dimensions and an unusual avant-garde design based on a structure of curved bodies covered with sheets of titanium.
It consists of 19 halls as well as an auditorium, a library, a restaurant, 2 coffee bars, a shop and administrative offices. The museum's central atrium, which is remarkable, links up with three main central halls where shapely corridors, giant staircases and panoramic glass lifts against the wall come out. All of them are of a great showiness for filmsettings.
The terrace, with access from the atrium, offers spectacular views of the ria and the water garden.
Wide green areas and pedestrian avenues along the ria - reaching the Bilbao City Hall - surround the museum. Its brightness and wide spaces in the museum's surroundings make of the Guggenheim an interesting setting for filmings.
Recommended areas: Views of the museum, its atrium and its flower-shaped zenithal skylight that lights the museum. Its spectacular surroundings, from the Calle Iparraguirre Street.
Setting and atmosphere: Modern, cosmopolitan, avant-gardist, full of activity due to the thousands of visitors attending every year.
