Description
The new airport, which has a surface area of 25,000 square metres, was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. It was inaugurated in 2000 and quickly became one of the basic architecture samples of the new Bilbao.
Its structure resembles a dove beginnings its flight that is why it is also known as "La Paloma" (The Dove). The pointed figure of the airport terminus shows "the concept of flight", Calatrava says.
White colour, glass and concrete structures are prominent in the construction, and a new cone-shaped control tower was built to face the increasing flights at the new terminus.
As for filming, the interior of the building is covered by big windows and lacks columns, which gives the constructions a wide space lighted by a natural light turning it visually spectacular.
The same occurs to the coffee bar, where huge windows offer magnificent views of a runway surrounded by mountains. As a whole, it is an amazing building.
Setting and atmosphere: Modern, cosmopolitan and with busy activity at any time.
