How to arrive
By plane
Bilbao airport, located in Loiu, is 12 km away from the city. It arranges daily flights to the main Spanish cities as well as to several destinations in Europe, such as London, Paris or Milan.
However, from other regions it is necessary to stop over in Madrid or Barcelona. A bus service is available from the airport to Bilbao (trip approx. 20 minutes)
For further information, visit the website of the airport.
By train
Bilbao's main train station is located in Abando, where there is also a tube station. Abando is situated in Hurtado de Amézaga Street, very close to the end of the Gran Vía, which nearly reaches the river, next to Plaza Circular Square. From this station it is possible to arrive in any national or international destination through long-distance trains.
For further information, visit the web of RENFE (Spanish National Train Service).
By road
The best road to Bilbao from the eastern and western regions of Spain is the A-8 motorway. But in case of departing from the south of the peninsula the best way is taking the A-1 road and the A-68 later on.
In case of driving from any region in Europe, the best way is to follow the A-68 motorway, which sets off from the frontier at France and halts in San Sebastián towards Bilbao.
By ferry
The English firm P&O Ferries connects Bilbao with the English town of Portsmouth. The ferry departs twice or three times a week from Santurzi harbour. The trip in "Pride of Bilbao" to England lasts 30 hours and about 33 hours to return.
